Aeroplane Music was established in 2011 when founding directors Ben Howe & Jan Hellriegel saw the need for a specialist that was also a generalist - a licensing and supervision firm that could add value by offering publicity, music consultation and project management services. In the last few years Wayne Bell has stepped into the position of creative director and leads the company.
Since then, Aeroplane has established its place in the NZ production industry as a reliable, buttoned-down operator and a sharp negotiator with rights holders on behalf of local and International film, TV and commercial content clients.
In the past few years Aeroplane has worked on some major NZ and international productions, notably Poi E, Herbs - Songs of Freedom, All Or Nothing - The All Blacks ( Amazon), 100 Men, Swagger of Thieves, The Heart Dances, Celebrity Treasure Island , and the hit Australian drama series Wanted. Also advertising projects include Tourism NZ, Bell Tea, Genesis Energy and Vogels.
Aeroplane specialises in New Zealand music and represents the iconic Flying Nun and Songbroker catalogues for the world. Aeroplane also has direct relationships with both labels and publishers in many international territories.
Wayne Bell
Wayne Bell is a bit of a NZ music legend, and he’s Creative Director/Partner at Aeroplane.
He and Jan have worked together artistically for over 25 years, and have a close and creative working relationship.
Both are hugely experienced in music production, and both continue to develop and release original music in their downtime - this is quite unusual for a supervision company, and part of what makes Aeroplane such a unique offering. They are 100% immersed in Music, and this unmatched experience and expertise is brought to every music brief Aeroplane takes on.
Aeroplane has huge experience in music production, and equally unusually, an extensive network of musicians, songwriters and screen composers to draw on when needed to help answer a TV or Film supervision brief.
