ROULETTES

Roulettes was formed in the mid-2000s when Ben and Justin, fellow-survivors from 90s Dunedin rock and roll bands (Funhouse, Bike) reunited in an Auckland studio around a computer and hot vintage guitar amplifiers, and over many cups of green tea, recorded their first EP, You Want It, (released in 2007).

Ben and Justin have a long history together: they met at preschool in Dunedin, and formed their first band/s while at high school. They reconnected in Auckland after travel and stints studying audio engineering at Auckland’s SAE.

The first songs recorded by Roulettes followed a deliberate manifesto of simplicity: no middle 8s, no long songs.

The band has 2 EPs, You Want It and Unread Books, and a self-titled album behind them. Venus Burns is their 4th release. All are available from Bandcamp, Spotify, iTunes and other digital sources.

Roulettes’ songs have featured on local TV shows, this year and in the past. You Want It, and I Think I Can appeared on Outrageous Fortune, and recently, thanks to Jan Hellriegel’s Songbroker service, on Shortland Street, Filthy Rich and 800 Words.

Many of their songs have been playlisted on radio stations from The Rock to bNets and many stations in between. Previous releases have received highly favourable reviews, from Grant Smithies, Nick Bollinger, Graham Reid, NZ Musician and Alex Green's Stereo Embers in the USA.

The band are set to release their new EP at the end of May 2020.
