Aeroplane Music Newsletter # 1

It's been a fun and frenetic few months since we've moved to our Pitt St offices. Here's a rundown of projects we've been working on, music we've been licensing and talented musicians we've been promoting.

Praguematique (please note the spelling!) play an eclectic mix of music from ska, Balkan and European folk to gypsy swing, Latin, pop, jazz and funk. Aucklanders can witness this talented five piece in the flesh at The Vic Theatre in Devonport on October 2nd. Tickets are now available for purchase from The Vic Theatre website. For an extensive list of NZ tour dates head over to the Praguematique website.

Aeroplane was proud to play a major role in the music licensing process for the documentary Radio Punks which aired on Prime TV last month. The plethora of artists included Suburban Reptiles, The Jean-Paul Sartre Experience,  The Datsuns, The Verlaines, SJD, The Headless Chickens and Abel Tasmans to name a few.

Auckland-based producer Lukas Kelly aka ASKE has debuted his new single ‘FOUND’ – featuring the talented Ed Waaka on vocals. The lyrics are inspired by the challenges faced in a digital world, when we desperately want to connect with the world around us.  'FOUND' is the first single from his debut EP Unspent Moments, due out in 2016. 'FOUND' is available from iTunes. Listen here.

The Aeroplane licensing team have been successful in securing several tracks for prominent TV commercials of late, including Greg Johnson for Lumino The Dentists, Warren Maxwell for Genesis Energy, Kinetaphone for 2 Degrees, Dean Kerr for Hyundai brand and Songbroker artists Andrew Thorne for Hyundai i30 and Wayne Bell for Meadowfresh.

Jazz-flute-ninja Miho Wada releases her new studio album Bumpy Road on October 9th. Bumpy Road was written while touring during Miho’s pregnancy, and recorded during the lead up to the baby's arrival. Miho’s Jazz Orchestra has a National Tour planned in October & November with Arts on Tour. Catch the album release show  on Sun 11th October at the Pt Chevalier RSA, Pt Chev, Auckland. For tour dates head to Miho's website.

In house music supervisor Wayne Bell has been busy licensing all the music for series two of TVNZ series Step Dave as well as the new top rating South Pacific Pictures series 800 Words, which includes tracks by Songbroker artist Paper Cranes as well as Family Cactus and Surf City. We also successfully secured tracks from The DeSotos and The Unfaithful Ways on Prime TV series The Brokenwood Mysteries.

Songbroker is excited to announce several new writers to its catalogue. Reputed jazz crossover artist and pianist extraordinaire, Kevin Field joins us along with seasoned jazz/blues musician Kelvin Roy.  We're also pleased to welcome iconic New Zealand pop songwriter, producer and audio engineer, Rikki Morris and freelance musician, composer, producer and ensemble arranger, Godfrey De Grut. De Grut and wife Cherie Mathieson just completed the musical direction of the 50th annual Silver Scrolls, managing a 17-piece orchestra for the entire evening and overseeing the arrangement and production of the Hall of Fame performance, SOUNZ award and the Silver Scroll Finalist songs featuring a selection of the country's most talented artists.
