Up With People launches a series of live music events with an evening of intrigue and intimacy courtesy of local legend Barry Saunders, Silver Scroll nominee and former member of The Dead Brothers Delaney Davidson, Unfaithful Ways' Marlon Williams and one of Wellington's finest purveyors of country, roots & blues, Miss Ebony Lamb. It's the first of a haphazardly planned run of concerts and club-nights in the Wairarapa that will bring established and up-and-coming artists from home and abroad as well as DJs and a variety of curiosities to the area at different locations over the coming months..
First up is a night in the company of four of this country's finest musicians. Taking a break from the Warratah's 25th anniversary celebrations is Barry Saunders - a man hailed by Radio NZ's and the Listener's Nick Bollinger as "one of New Zealand's few, true troubadours". He'll be joined by an exclusive pairing of Lyttleton's Delaney Davidson and Marlon Williams. A Silver Scroll nominee and self-described "part man, part wheel, part wandering minstrel, part travelling salesman", Davidson is currently on the road in Europe and the USA in support of his current release Bad Luck Man - a collection of bizarre and beautiful juke-joint blues tunes acclaimed by critics as one of the best albums of last year. At Aratoi he's teaming up with friend and neighbour Marlon Williams of the Unfaithful Ways - a hugely popular Americana outfit nominated for the prestigious Critics Choice prize at 2011's NZ Music Awards. Ebony Lamb is a relative newcomer but her Gillian Welch-inspired country musings have already earned her much respect on the other side of the Rimatukas where she's fast becoming one of the stars of Wellington's burgeoning alt.folk circuit.
